Student Spotlight: Painting with Sadie Oh

We are thrilled to share the work of accomplished Insight student, Sadie Oh. We asked Sadie about the challenges and rewards of drawing and painting, and to share her plans for the future:

Sadie Oh
What is your favorite thing about painting?

I love how each stroke of color comes together to form a cohesive piece. Furthermore, painting is like a form of meditation for me; when I paint, I am in my own space where I can relax and enjoy myself.

What is the most challenging thing about painting?

Each piece can take hours, requiring dedication and patience. When a painting requires many intricate details, I can become impatient, so I remind myself what the finished result will look like to keep myself motivated.

What inspires you to paint?

One of my favorite subjects is nature. I love capturing the dynamic energy and vibrancy that it can exhibit, whether by painting a vivid landscape or a dramatic animal portrait. When you successfully portray nature’s vitality, it feels so much more surreal than when you see a photograph of it.

What are your plans for the next 5 years?

I plan to attend university studying something business related. I’m not really set on my major though, as it is definitely something that could change.

Do you have a favorite painting or drawing that you have created? What makes it your favorite?

A couple months ago I created a painting of waves. It was an arduous process, but nonetheless, I love the piece because of the amount of detail I incorporated. I also really love the colors; they’re so vibrant.

Do you plan on continuing to paint and draw in the future?

Yes! I love it so much. It is something I can see myself doing for the rest of my life.

Thank you, Sadie! We look forward to seeing all the wonderful things you do in the future!
